Joseph Taluto, Deputy Commander of the 42nd Infantry Division and Commander of Joint Task Force 42, the state active duty task force assisting New York City Office of Emergency Management officials at ground zero here following the 9/11 terror attacks provides an information briefing to then Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Jack Keane on October 12, 2001. Following the attack, New York Governor George Pataki mobilized the entire New York National Guard for state active duty, with many Guardsmen and women responding to their armories or ground zero as they learned of the terror attack. In the city alone, approximately 1,500 Citizen-Soldiers would be on duty by the end of the night of September 11, 2001 with another 1,500 preparing to move the next day. Joining the New York National Guard’s 2nd Civil Support Team were elements of the 42nd Infantry Division, 53rd Troop Command and 27th Infantry Brigade. Photo by Col.
