Jones, with many others, prefers that the end bars of the frames project downward (Fig. 46) and that the bottom bar project at each end. It is now quite the fashion to wire the frames (Fig. 110). This insures perfect safety if we wish to ship our bees, and secures against sagging or bulging of the foundation. If the foundation is put on with a press, No. 36 wire is used; if pressed on by hand No. 30 wire is better. The timber for frame should be thoroughly seasoned, and of the best pine or white- wood., Care should be taken that the frame be made so as to hang vertically, when suspended on the rabbets of the hive.
