September 30th 2008, established by Greek Dorians from Heraclea Pontica in VI century BC. The city was ruled by Greek, Roman, Kievan Rus, Genoa and Byzantine. In 988 grand prince of Kievan Rus, Vladimir the Great, was baptized in Chersonesus and it was beginning of the Kievan Rus christianization.
