It seems as though the design of driv-ing-boxes, driving-box brasses had notsuccessfully kept pace with the rapid in-crease of piston thrust. We have in al-most general use the same type of driving-box brass that has been standard on lo-comotives for years. The design is suchthat the brass extends about half-waydown over the journal. Inasmuch as thebrass must take up the piston thrust, itis very evident that we shall have troublein taking care of driving-box brasses untila suitable design is produced—one in whichth
