Ralph Dinsley, Founder and executive director, Northern Space and Security Ltd, talking about "How to Clean Up Space Junk", On the Cosmos stage, at New Scientist Live 2019

Currently, almost 2000 satellites are in orbit around the Earth providing vital services across the globe. However, as the number of operating satellites increases so does the number of redundant ones, rocket parts and even a spanner or two. If the growth of this space junk continues unhindered, we risk losing the most useful and economically vital orbital pathways around Earth. Join Ralph "Dinz" Dinsley as he explores the growth of space debris and dispells a few myths along the way. And hear about the innovative solutions being developed to reduce the risk of a space-debris apocalypse occurring. Ralph “Dinz” Dinsley is a retired RAF officer with more than 32 years of service. His distinguished career culminated in leading the Ministry of Defence contribution to global Space Situational Awareness (SSA) in two significant programmes and his unique military space experience was underpinned as a CAS Fellow, with an MA in peace and development from Leeds Beckett University. Dinz is the founder and executive director of Northern Space and Security Ltd, a rapidly expanding SSA company based in the Northumberland, an associate and founding member of the think tank Reflecting Space, and an observer to the Hague space resource governance working group.
