Four years of thistime were spent in the Baptist college,Haverford West, South Wales. Davidbecame acquainted with the Saintsduring the first term of Orson Prattspresidency over the British mission, inthe years 1848-50, when so many thou-sands were brought into the Church,and all Wales rang with the gospel andwonders of Mormonism. David, whoat that time was a youth, beli«ved andwas baptized in February, 1847, but sooutraged did his family feel over hisjoining the Mormons that he wassubject to constant and bitter perse-. cution from them, and finally he waaforced to give bonds to his father tokeep from the Mormons till he wasof age, which he did by the counselof Apostle Orson Pratt himself. Thuswas David Johns association with theMormon Church broken off for a fewyears, until he had reached the age of23, and during that time he was beingeducated in a Baptist college, with hisfathers firm, set resolve that his sonshould engage in the Baptist by a remarkable manifestationfrom the heavsn, the severed link ofhis destiny with the Mormon peoplewas restored. Near the end of Janu-ary, 1856, he had a very impressive dream, which was afterwards fullywritten and published in the UdgornScion (Zions Trumpet), in the year1856.
