Maui, Hawaii, Ho‘okipa, Native Hawaiian Movement
Ho‘okipa is a beach on Maui which is one of the best windsurfing areas in the world. It features well-shaped waves breaking over a series of reefs plus strong winds — these make it perfect for windsurfing. As a result, a number of competitions are held here bringing the best windsurfers in the world together here. Additionally, board and body surfers will also join in the fun, being careful to not get in each other's way. Most Americans support self-determination for any group of indigenous people, including the Hawaiians who inhabited these beautiful islands before the Europeans stumbled on them. Fortunately, many people of good will, both those with Hawaiian blood and those without, are working to find solutions to the myriad issues involved. Let's hope they are successful.
