Prestwick Golf Club was founded on 2nd July 1851 by a group of 57 golfers who met at the Red Lion Inn, Prestwick. The Red Lion in Prestwick, South Ayrshire, has been trading for almost 200 years. The pub is reported to have been a regular meeting place for a group of golfers who in 1851 decided to form The Prestwick Club and built the Prestwick Links course with the help of greenkeeper Thomas Morris, know as Old Tom Morris
