The Cryptoporticus ("hidden gallery") at the ancient Greek Agora (later Roman Forum) of Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece.
"The Roman Agora was constructed in the late 2nd century AD and it constituted the administrative centre of the town till the 5th century. The excavations started in 1962, while the restoration works began in 1989 and created an important archaeological site to visit in the centre of the town. The museum houses findings from the excavations and narrates the history of the town of Thessaloniki through the centuries. The Roman Agora of Thessaloniki is quadrangular. It used to be wider and in essence it was a large central square with large columns, which housed the Odeon, a show area, the Mint, the Bath, shops and large arcades, of which the best-preserved is the cryptoporticus, which was not hidden upon its establishment. The southern section of the Agora was crossed by Via Egnatia. The agora had its own enclosure, a unique monument which since the 19th century is kept in the Louvers. The residents called it “Ikantadas”, "the charmed". To the south, above the platform, is Bey Hamam, alternatively known as the "Baths of Paradise", a 15th-century Ottoman edifice that has been restored. On the southwest corner of the square is the magnificent church of Panagia Chalkeon. There are many walks that start from the Ancient Agora and reach all parts of the city.
