It will be obseryed fromthe illustrations that the overhead wire method is employed, the collection of current being performed by means of t\\ otrolleys, which working on a swiveling device, give a con-siderable amount of side play. The rest of the equipmentis almost identical with that of an ordinary tram car. Thereare two 30-horse-power G. E. Soo motors, each of which isplaced oyer one of the main legs. The armature of themotor is geared through a pinionon to the main shaft whichpasses down the inside of the leg and at the bottom is con-nected through a bevel wheel and single reduction gearingon to the axle of the dri\ing wheels. The brakes areworked by rods passing down the remaining two legs. The. CAR AT STATION. controlling of the car is effected by means of G. E. type Kcontrollers arranged at each end of the car. The electric energy is generated at the Rottingdcan endof the line and is sent direct into the overhead wire. Tlu-posts which carry the overhead wire, at the Brighton end ofthe line are of steel, luit cnUsi<le the towns wooden posts areemployed. It is an interesting fact that the cost of a steelpost, including its erection, was practically £20, the chiefcost arising from the difhcidtics in placing it in position. The generating ])lant is placed on a specially constructed iron[jier which ser\es also as a landing stage. The apjK-aranceof the station very much resembles the stoke hold of a the present time a marine boiler has been erected whichis capable of furnishing steam to a 100-horse-power highspeed double acting engine by Sissons & Co. The engineis direct coupled to a G. E. four-pole generator which sup-plies current tn th
