Ongoing construction at the new Kunar prison in the Shigal Valley, Jan. 14. The Kunar Provincial Reconstruction Team visited the Kunar Prison construction site to conduct a quality assurance check and address security issues. PRT leaders and engineers met with Afghan national police representatives, the construction site engineer and foreman to discuss the progress of the prison. The prison is a $ million investment in the Shigal area and serves as an economic boost for the local economy. Once complete in mid-2010, the prison will house 470 inmates.
