LAMMERS, Peter Jacob, presidentof the Netherlands Mission from 1875to 1877 and from 1882 to 1884, wasborn Oct. 22, 1839, in Amsterdam,Holland, a son of Pieter Lammers andChristina Alida Kortman. He wasbaptized June 23,1864, ordained anElder Oct. 20, 1865,under the hands ofJoseph Weiler andFrancis A. Brown,and set apart as alocal missionary. Inthis capacity he la-bored until Aug. 20,1869, when he leftHolland as an emigrant for Weiler, reporting his missionaryactivities, describes Elder Lammers asindefatigable in his labors. Brother. Lammers returned twice to his nativeland, both times as president of themission, and translated and publishedseveral small books and first edition of the Dutch or Neth-erlands L. D. S.
