The window was installed in 1512 by stained glass masters of Troyes, historic regional capital, and the window’s colours are typical of 16th century glass made in the Troyes workshops. A Tree of Jesse is a depiction of the ancestors of Jesus Christ in the form of a tree.
Ceffonds, Haute-Marne, Grand Est, France: detail of a Renaissance stained glass window in a village church, the Église Saint-Rémi de Ceffonds, in the Champagne region. The window is one of several installed in the Ceffonds church in 1512, all created by master glassmakers of Troyes, the Champagne region’s historic capital. The windows are excellent examples of the Champenoise School of Renaissance painted glass from the Champagne region; more particularly, they are examples of glass produced by the workshops at Troyes, renowned for its intense blues, striking reds, vivid emerald greens and vibrant chrome yellows. Troyenne glass was installed in many churches in the river valleys and departments of the Aube, Marne, Upper Marne and Yonne. Apart from vivid colours, it can be identified by the inclusion of small narrative scenes and halos with beaded decoration.
