Egyptian sex rituals. 19th-century illustration of women in a temple of Ancient Egypt during the period of Classical Greece, initiating a man with the use of sex rituals. Such rituals were observed by Herodotus of Halicarnassus (484-425 BC), a Greek historian from Iona who documented the Greco-Persian wars in 'The Histories'. This work also recorded other aspects of the societies and cultures of his time. He is often referred to as the 'father of history'. Artwork published in 1877.
