After a job of wiring has been completed, tests shouldbe made to see if all connections are correct and also ifthere are any grounds or crosses between the wires. Allcircuits should be tested before fixtures of any kind are putup, and each fixture should be tested carefully before it isput in place. Fixtures when received from the factory arenot usually wired, and connecting the sockets, etc. must bedone before they are put in place. If this is not carefullydone, the fixture wire is apt to become grounded; hence, the. fig. 40. necessity of testing out fixtures before they are put intoposition. For most of this testing a magneto-bell is is a small hand, electric generator connected with abell similar to the call bell on a telephone. Fig. 40 shows aportable magneto made for testing work; /, f are the ter-minals to which wires are attached in order to test anycircuit. When a circuit is established between /, /, the bellrings. These instruments are made of various capacitiesdesigned to ring the bell through resistances of 5,000 to10,000 ohms, or more. 66 INTERIOR WIRING. § 27 72. Each branch circuit should be tested individuallywith the magneto by connecting it to the terminals of thecircuit at the panel board or cut-out. The wires at all theoutlets should be separated and the circuit rung up. If noring is obtained, it shows that there is no cross between thewires. The wires coming out of each outlet should then betouched together in turn and also their correspondin
