Volcán de Fuego is erupting on 1st February 2018, seen from Antigua city, Sacatepequez, Guatemala

At the morning of 1st February El Fuego was erupting first time since years. The volcanic ash rised up to a high of 7 km. Only 20 km away the old colonial city Antigua de Guatemala and its people was sleeping. The week before we could listen to the deep rumble even 50 km away, always thinging of a thundersturm. Often I was thinking of the people of Pompeii or of the Krakatoa surrounding islands. Talking to local people shows me everything else than fear. They are living with the volcano and dealing with it. Four months later, at 3rd June, there was another eruption taking more than 100 lives. Still two weeks later more than 200 people were missing. Watching this natural event in the morning before sunrise in the twilight of the dawn made me feeling small and thinking about us.
