Refraction is the change of direction of a wave when it passes from one medium to another. The change in medium causes a change in speed and wavelength. The rays are refracted as they enter the prism and again as they leave it. Because the surfaces of the block are parallel, the two refractions cancel each other out and the rays emerge in the same direction as they entered.
