Ptolemaic Egyptian mummy-shaped coffin of Mes-per, 2-1st cent BC, Gamhud, Nekropolis. Kunsthistorisches Muesum Vienna AS 6688. Close up of the goddess Nut with spread wings. The coffin has the partial remains of a mummy. Lid of the Mummy Coffin of the Mesper. The coffin lid was cut from a tree trunk and was hollowed out so that the mummy had room to fit in it. Typically of late period coffins and the place of manufacture it has a bulging front. At the foot end, the feet dressed in shoes are depicted. The mummy's mask was also gilded.
