Round about the North pole . r was arrested by her being frozen in for thewinter on the eastern side of Kolyuchin Bay in thenorthernmost part of Bering Strait, only six miles ofice barring the way round Cape Serdze Kamen into theopen sea. During her detention of two hundred andsixty-four days the scientific investigations of manykinds that were undertaken were of lasting importance,as they had been throughout, and when she was re-leased on the 18th of July, 1879, to come home by wayof Yokohama, the collections and records she broughtwith her were simply enormous.
