Aside from domestic Currants and Gooseberries (which see in Vols. I and II), Ribes contains few plants that ar« generally prized for cultivation. The most popular ornamental species is the Buffalo Currant, Sibes aureum, which is hardy and productive everywhere. The hybrid B. Gor- donianum is also popular for its long clusters of bright pink flow- ers, its vigorous habit and its hardiness. H. sanguineum is also fairly well known, and is hardy in the northeastern states. There are horticultural forms with white, very dark red, and purple flowers. Some of the species are useful in shrubbery masses for their foliage and U18.
