Violet (nee Taylor), wife of John Mackintosh the 'Toffee King', 1919. The couple married in 1890 and together they opened a pastry cook’s shop in Kings Cross Street, Halifax (Violet was already a trained confectioner's assistant). Violet devised a recipe for a new kind of creamy, chewy toffee.
