A popular place to visit, the Cathedral plays host to thousands of visitors every year. The most complete, medieval, monastic, structure, still standing in the UK. Founded as a Benedictine Monastery, dedicated to St Werberg in 1092. after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1541, it was rededicated as the Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary in Chester, the mother church of England Diocese of Chester.
