The ochre cliffs at Roussillon, where raw pigment was mined for artist's paints, before synthetic pigments took over. Nowadays, the underground galleries are largely used at mushroom beds, but ochre is still quarried on the surface, at Gargas and Rustrel quarries where the manufacturing process has not changed greatly, apart from mechanisation.
