Norwegian Wooden Houses built in traditional technique used in Viking and Medieval times with grass on the roofs in Sogn og Fjordane County in Norway

The turf roofs have been used as a compressor for the wooden construction and making the walls of the house draught-proof. Also it is reasonably efficient insulator in a cold climate and the birch bark underneath ensures that the roof will be waterproof.
