The Girgentana breed is commonly admired for the undoubted particular shape of the horns. There is speculation that the breed store its distant origins in the capra Falconeri or Markor, by erect horns, living in West Asia. The origins of its introduction in Italy go back to 700 by Greek colonists, or according to another hypothesis in 800 with the importation on the part of the Arabs. The breed's name is derived from Agrigento (in Sicilian “Garcia”), one of the places where it is most widespread.
