Casting mould. Metal grid frame over a casting mould. The mould is setting, and is not yet dry. Moulding and casting of objects is a manufacturing and sculpting method that uses plastics and rubbers to create a mould of an original object. The moulding material is poured around the object and, once it has set, the mould preserves the original shape of the object. Another material (such as plastic resin or metal) can then be poured into the mould to create a copy (cast) of the original object. This technique can be used to create copies of fossils and bones for further analysis. Photographed at the anthropological laboratory in Marseilles, France.
