The Ruined Priory of St Mary and St Cuthbert in the beautiful valley of the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey in North Yorkshire

The beautiful valley of the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey in North Yorkshire. The land is owned by the Duke of Devonshire, who resides at Chatsworth House, and the River Wharfe is one of the finest trout streams in England. These images were taken in Spring when the bluebells are in bloom. Bolton Abbey was destroyed by Henry the 8th during his reformation of the English Catholic Church. Part of the Priory was saved and is once again used as a church but the largest part is in ruins. It is a popular area for walking and family picnics.
