The formation is metamorphic slate, hornblende, talc, mica, andchlorite schists, and occasional dikes ofdiorite. There are thirty or more mines and locations in the district, all ofwhich have been more or less worked to depths varying from fifty tothree hundred feet. The veins are usually found in contacts, and theores resemble those of the Ophir District, but do not carry so large apercentage of sulphurets. The only mine at work in the district is the one owned by the WhiteBros., who are taking out ore very rich in free gold, but refused positivelyto allow an examination of the mine, or to furnish any data whateverfor publication.
