EXCELLENT STOCK WITH SMALL DEMANDS. Midsummer dullness still prevails, the demand being ver^- light although the quality of stock in the market is excellent. American Beauty roses have never been better for the season, some of almost winter standard being seen. Mock roses are fine large buds and Sunburst and My Maryland show up well; in fact the market has never been so well supplied with roses as it is now. The whole line of summer out- side stock is coming in far ahead of the demand and the quality is fine. Asters, gladioli and hydrangeas are leaders. Easter lilies and valley are more than equal to the call for them. In fact the only scarce article is the I "attleya which is now out of crop. CLUB MEETING. The September meeting of the Flor- ists' Club of Philadelphia was rather slimly attended, but those present had a treat in the paper of Frederick Hah- man, and the talks of Harry Betz and Adolph Farenwald. The club is like- ly to be the first to join the S. A. F. as it has now the requisite number of members, over 100. Mr. Farenwald impressed the members to work hard for the great International Show in 1916. Edward Reid gave a graphic account of his getting away from Eng- land. The English would not take their own pound notes, nothing pass- ing but coin. He spoke of roses, car- nations and sweet peas being quite the equal, if not better, than any grown here. The sweet peas were very muclt better than
