Porte St Denis

The view, taken in 1828, shows the Porte St Denis which separates Rue St Denis from Faubourg St Denis. It was designed by Francis Blondell assisted by Michel and Francis Anguier who made the sculptures. The triumphal arch is decorated with obelisks under which are figures representing the States of Holland and the Waters of the Rhine. The tablet above the arch shows Louis XIV in Greek costume. On the other side lions represent the taking of Maestricht. The designs are due to Lebrun. The image was drawn by B Ferry and engraved by J Henshall
