The young branches are a very dark purple ; the leaves when young are lustrous crimson, changing to a dark purple, and retain this beautiful tint till tbey drop late in autumn ; no other purpled-leaved tree or shrub retains its color till late in the fall like this. It transplants easily and is worthy of wide dissemination. Flowers small, white, single, covering the tree. A recently introduced shrub of great merit. 50c. DOUBLE-FLOWERING PLUM.
