State commemoration has taken place in the Garden of Remembrance for those who gave their lives in the cause of Irish freedom. The ceremony in the presence of the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. The program opened with a performance of The Parting Glass by the Island of Ireland Peace Choir and also included a performance of Patrick Cassidy's The Proclamation by violin soloist Patricia Treacy. The formal State ceremonial event culminated with a wreath-laying ceremony followed by a minute of silent reflection, a piper's lament, the raising of the National Flag and the National Anthem.
