Large tin of Bisto gravy powder, c. 1960

Large tin of Bisto gravy powder, c. 1960. Bisto is a meat flavouring that first appeared in the UK in 1908. The cartoon characters on the product were urchin twins Bill and Maree created by illustrator Will Owen in 1919. Their catchphrase after smelling the Bisto aroma of 'Ah, Bisto' became common around many British dinner tables. The tin is about cm tall - a vintage nineteen fifties/sixties item for editorial use only.
