" Challenge " is a late variety, being in full perfec- tion November 25th to 30lh. Before that time the cen- ter florets have not taken on their true character, al- though it is in grand condition throughout the month. The flower is a perfect globe of gold, which finally shows a pointed center. The color is bright yellow, the form quite as deep as wide, the stem very strong, foliage ex- tra good, and a somewhat dwarf grower. Needs hardly any tying up. The long looked for ideal yellow, both for exhibition and commercial purposes. Can be ship- ped in perfect condition for any distance. BEAU IDEAL. According to our judgment this variety is as good as any of the foregoing, or we should not off'er it here, as this year we had decided to list only those sorts that are away above high water mark. Beau Ideal is a bright rose pink, without touch of lavender shadings. The form is a somewhat flat incurved, the outer petals hori- zontal, showing the bright pink, the incurving center showing a lighter shade. The petals are broad and of good substance, flower of fine size, stem stiff, foliage first-rate. A good grower ; everything that can be de- sired as a cut flower. It is in perfection about October 25, and keeping it in the cellar for the shows had the effect of washing the color, as it does with most of the pinks.
