Clematis (Clematis x jackmanii hybrids) - Seed Head. The flowers of Clematis 'Cezanne' open from spring right though to early autumn. The lavender blue flowers are plentiful with yellow anthers. A compact Clematis perfect for containers and small gardens. Clematis have flowers like jewels that shine in the garden. Jackmanii are large flowering Clematis and they make a dazzling display. Jackmanii blooms are 10-25cm across, these varieties grow to a compact 2-3m and make a statement of beauty without being overpowering. Jackmanii Clematis are good varieties for beginners, they require little in the way of care and are very your clematis so their 'head' is in the sun and their 'feet' are in the shade. In other words they like their root zone to be cool and protected, this can be done with mulch and or by using other plants to shield the roots from the sun. The plant should be allowed to grow up into a sunny position. Clematis can be trained to grow on a trellis, fence, through trees and shrubs, along pergolas or any where you like! They are so versatile, you can even use them as a ground cover. Clematis grow well where Roses grow well. They are also excellent in combination. You can use similar colours for a lovely blend or create some drama with contrasting shades. Clematis will intermingle well with many plants. Clematis are fast growing and produce lots of flowers. So to perform at their best they should be fertilised well. Use a Rose Fertiliser every three months or Clematis in humus rich, moist, well drained soil. They need good drainage or the roots will rot. Plant so they will receive around six hours sun a day and shield from the hot afternoon rays. You can also grow Clematis in pots. Dead head after the first flush of flowers to encourage rebloom. The second lot of flowers can remain on the stems as the seed heads are also decorative.
