The threat status is colour-coded: low (blue), medium (yellow), high (orange), very high (red) and critical (black). Coral reefs protect coastlines and support millions of people worldwide. They are threatened by overfishing, thermal stress from climate change such as global warming, and ocean acidification. The report 'Reefs at Risk Revisited' (2011) stated that the percentage of reefs under threat would increase to nearly 100 percent by 2050, with those facing high or worse threats increasing to 60 percent (2030) and 75 percent (2050).
