A covering of 4 or 5 inches of leaves or litter will be beneficial and save the young shoots, which start early, and are liable to be dam- aged by late frosts. It produces immense flowers stems 6 to 10 feet high, bearing on their summit a dense raceme of rosy lilac flowers, each nearly 2 inches across. (See cut.)
