It is, however, worthy of notethat his son Henry never sympathized with hisfathers attitude, and was among the earliest to allyhimself with the Fraternity in the Masonic revival,which followed this great excitement. This actseemed to completely upset his fathers antagonism tothe Order. From the moment that he knew of hissons connection with it he never uttered anotherword against Freemasonry. Others who had beenhostile to the Fraternity were heard to say that ifall its members were like Henry Goddard there wasmuch to be said for it and nothing against it. He received the first three degrees in MorningStar Lodge, in 1847: the orders of Knighthood inWorcester County Commandery in 1855 and was itseminent commander in 1866-67-68. On September7, 1871, the Commandery elected him to honorarymembership. In 1S63 he received the Scottish Ritein Boston Consistory, was subsequently a deputy.
