Berlin, Germany. 19th June 2016. The 'Center for Political Beauty' collective have launched a political campaign called "Eating Refugees” outside the Maxim Gorki Theatre. The work challenges the law that prevents refugees from flying into the EU without a visa and results in dangerous attempts to arrive by land and water. The work consists of 4 tigers in a cage, a caretaker dressed as gladiator and a picture of the German President Joachim Gauck in the background. A Red, black and white poster pictures a young girl asking a parent "Why don't refugees just take a plane” referring to the tragic deaths of people attempting to cross the sea. The collective have appealed for people who are willing to be eaten by the tigers and they state that this will be halted by a ’thumbs up’ sign from Angela Merkel and a modification of the law which prohibits airlines from transporting passengers to the EU when they do not have a visa to enter the country. The group have requested a response from the Bundestag by the 24 June and they are chartering a flight on June 28 from Izmir, Turkey, to Berlin for 100 Syrian refugees who are waiting to join their families. The cash for the flight is being raised by a crowd-funding campaign and sponsors may vote for the refugees who should be the first to be saved. The object of the campaign is to stop the the smuggling of people which has resulted in the death of many refugees and the group claim to have found at least one refugee who is prepared to face the tigers - this will only happen if the charter flight is blocked by the German government.
