Japan: The actor Nakamura Takesaburo playing an itinerant female tea vendor. A pair of panniers is slung across his shoulders with the paraphernalia for tea making including, in the lower sections, a brazier and water jug. Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Torii Kiyomasu I (fl. 1690s-1720s), c. 1716. Torii Kiyomasu was a Japanese painter and printmaker of the Torii school, in the genre of ukiyo-e. Like the other Torii artists, his primary focus was on Kabuki billboards, advertisements, actor prints and other related material.
