Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Smeltz, recruiter, Anthem Recruiting Station, Phoenix North Recruiting Company, places a brick in honor of his late K-9 Aya, at the Anthem Veteran’s Memorial, Feb. 1, Anthem, Ariz. For five years Smeltz had Aya as his faithful companion, after she was retired from the Army as a military working dog.
