North-eastern Pakistan, true-colour satellite image. North is at top. Water is blue, barren land & rock are brown and vegetation is green. This is the sandy and eroded Potwar Plateau, rising above the green fields of the Punjab Plain (bottom right). The plateau is bounded by the Jhelum River (lower right) and the Indus River (top left). The Sohan River flows past the capital city Islamabad (grey, just north of the city of Rawalpindi, upper centre), down to lower left. Mountain foothills rise at upper right. This 185- kilometre-wide image was taken on 13 November 1994 by the Thematic Mapper (TM) sensor on NASA's Landsat 5 satellite.
