This cup belongs to the Hissar IB period, dating to ca. 4000 During this period there was a lively and technically proficient ceramic industry at the site, producing well-formed vessels decorated with geometric designs and stylized images of ibexes, gazelles and birds. Indeed, this vessel is one of the earliest images of an ibex from Iran, and thus stands at the beginning of a long tradition of depicting this iconic animal. But it is not known what these vessels were used for.
