The most symmetrical and beautiful of thepipes found in this mound is shown in Fig. 59. This pipe ismade of limestone with a curved base, which is slightly shown inthe figure, as the pipe is so placed that the hollow in the bowlcan be seen. The platform part of the pipe is four and one-tenth inches in length, one and one-tenth inches in width at thecenter, gradually tapering at each end to one and three-fourthsof an inch in width. This platform is very thin, being four-tenths of an inch in thickness and highly polished bowl, like Fig. 58, rises from the center of the platform and 176 Ohio Arch, and Hist. Society Fig. Small platform pipe. (Length threeinches.) is one and four-tenths inches in height by one and three-tenthsin diameter. The crease is cut on each side of the bowl parallelto the platform at the point where the bowl joins the the center of the bowl the diameter is greatest. Just abovethe center a crease encircles the bowl and the top is flaring, be-ing wider than other parts of the bowl. The hollow in thebowl is three-fifths of an inch in diameter, which is the same from the top to the bottomof the bowl. A small holeis drilled from one end ofthe platform and connectswith the hollow of thebowl. Another interesting pipeis shown in Fig. 60. Thiscut does not do justice to this little pipe, as the bowl does notshow to any advantage in the cut, yet it is six-tenths of an inchin height and nine-tenths of an inch in diameter. The platformof this pipe is only slightly curved, being three inches in lengthand one inch in width at the broadest part, which is the center, and gradua
