COLE The use of thermit in the welding of rail ends, especially instreet railways, has become so well known within the past sixmonths that the management of nearly all the systems in opera-tion in the United States know more or less what it is and itsadvantages. It isobvious that if it is possible to join the railends permanently together so that they become continuous,and the joint has been practically eliminated, and permanentlyso, one of the worst, most expensive and annoying troublesincident to track construction and its maintenance has beenovercome.
