New Varieties—Not all new varieties that are being constantly introduced are improvements, but many of them are, and some prove to be mag- nificent triumphs of horticulture, to know which is well worth a trial of them all. In this age of close competition it becomes necessary for the fruit grower, if he would make the most of his opportunities, to make himselfatonce thoroughly acquainted with all varieties that are at all suit- able for his locality. To which end he will give each kind a fair trial in a small way as fast as it is introduced and then plant largely of such as he discovers to be most desirable and profitable. It is our practice to subject each and every candi- date for public favor to a trial on our own grounds and to freely give the result to everyone interest- ed.
