Recklinghausen, Castrop-Rauxel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Renaturalized Emscher, EMSCHERLAND construction project, a 37-hectare water and nature experience park at the water junction of the Rhine-Herne Canal (left) and renaturalized Emscher (right) on the city border of Recklinghausen with Castrop-Rauxel. The ecological focal point at the confluence of Suderwicher Bach and Emscher will also be a future garden of the International Garden Exhibition 2027. Before renaturation, the Emscher river system was an open, above-ground wastewater canal, combined sewer with surface water and sewage.
