The remains of Loch na Berie Iron Age Broch, near Cnip on the west coast of Lewis. Outer Hebrides, Scotland, UK
Loch na Berie Broch to the south east of Cnip now lies in an area of low lying waterlogged grassland close to the coast. The lower levels of this Iron Age broch originally built on the edge of a loch in the late 1st millennium BC are now submerged in 2m of water. As the waters rose, occupation moved in stages up the broch to first floor level where a Pictish figure-of-eight house was in use in the 5th-8th centuries AD. A causeway leads from the west with successive main entrances all on the east of the broch.
