Ash from slow-burning incense coils dusts uniformed crewmen and cannon on the deck of a model traditional junk or barge inside the A-Ma Temple in Macau, China. The Ming Dynasty temple was founded in 1488, in the place where Taoist mother-goddess A-Ma or Tin Hau, protector of seafarers, is said to have landed after a shipwreck, before ascending to heaven from the top of nearby Barra Hill.
Macau, China: ash falling from slow-burning incense coils dusts the red-jacketed crewmen and cannon on the deck of a model traditional junk or barge on display inside the A-Ma Temple, which was founded in 1488, during the Ming Dynasty. The ship has a wooden hull painted in red, green and gold. The temple was built in the place where A-Ma or Tin Hau, the Taoist mother-goddess and protector of seafarers, is said to have landed after surviving a shipwreck, before she ascended to heaven from the peak of nearby Barra Hill.
