This year they also participated in the basewide clean-up, Malama Ka Aina. Young Marine Sgt. Maj. Dakota Richter, the National Young Marine of the Year, from Florence, Ky., said the beach clean-up was the best form of community service and the group is grateful for the base's hospitality. Young Marine Sgt. Maj. Storme DiGiovanni, 17, of Kailua, said the clean-up was a great opportunity for the Young Marines to come together for an activity, especially helping preserve the nature of Hawaii's beaches.
